Rising Energy Costs Could Send One Million Americans into Poverty

La Crosse, WI - Late last week, Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Tim Scott (R-SC) released a white paper detailing the effects that increased energy costs could have on working families. The paper comes on the heels of news this summer that the EPA wants to further curtail carbon emissions through increased regulation.

"More and more we are seeing agency bureaucrats write rules that have far reaching effects on our daily lives," said Tony Kurtz, the challenger candidate in Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional district. "Congress needs to rein in these agencies, whose actions are hurting the middle class. Less than two weeks ago, Congress voted on HR 5078, a bill that would prevent the EPA from extending its mandate related to the clean water act. The bill passed the House with bi-partisan support, but Ron Kind voted no. Ron Kind stands with the regulators, not working families."

Earlier this summer, the La Crosse Tribune published an article detailing how proposed EPA regulations could mean higher costs for Coulee Region families.

"I spoke out against EPA overreach then, and I'll speak out about it now," said Kurtz. The clock is ticking, and we haven't heard any answers from Ron Kind."
